| First off i have a 2003 Mach 1. since ive owned this vehicle (brand new) it has sparatically smoked. little white puffs everynow and then. that never really bothered me. i just purchased a new set of mac longtube headers and now we have a bit of a oil consumption problem. i had read before that this could happen but never did i think that it would happen to me. as for the welding slag rumor they had no slag in them. the install was great just the oil problem. i called dallas mustang whom i purchased the headers through and they had no answers to give me. so they referred me to mac themselves. they gave me the story that ford has had valve seat problems since 1999 in the cobras. (4v's only) the rep told me that there is no way that a set of headers could cause a motor to burn oil. but that it could have made the valve seal problem worse by adding more flow. i need your help on this problem. dont know if i should send em back. fight it. or is there another solution. thanks so much.... kerleyfries |

| Really there is no fix other than pulling the heads and replacing the valve seals. The rumor of slag in the headers is BS because there would be many other issues other than bad valve seals of small pieces of metal were being sucked into the motor.
The MAC longtubes do a great job of scavenging exhaust a little too well and it's pulling oil past the valve seals. It isn't a Ford problem because it's not Fords job to build a motor able to withstand our modifications. It's not MAC fault either because they are just making headers and fact is it doesn't happen on every 2 or 4V motor.
The fact that your motor was smoking before hand I would have made Ford take care of that first and foremost before even moding the car in the first place. Also white smoke is either coolant or water, burnt oil smoke is light blue not white. |
